Come and see our Range of Hardy Plants
Thu 05 May 2022
What lovely weather we are enjoying, making now the perfect time to start getting your garden into shape for the summer ahead. Here at Twenty Pence, we have everything covered from compost, fertiliser, tools to a fully stocked plant area.
Our outdoor filled Pots are jam packed with a wide selection of seasonal plants for instant colour. The plant team pride themselves on the large selection of roses we stock, and new for this Platinum Jubilee Year is Rose The Queen Elizabeth II. A perfect way to mark the year.
Also, now fully stocked are our herbaceous beds. Herbaceous perennials are the backbone to any garden, large or small adding colour year after year.
Flowering away now are:
- Lavandula stoechas is commonly referred to as French lavender. It’s an aromatic dwarf shrub with narrow, greyish leaves, and bears dense, oval heads of small purple flowers topped with with a tuft of purple bracts. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM). Cut back the flower stalks after they have finished, and then trim back plants in April, if necessary.
Mop head hydrangeas are one of the most popular garden shrubs because of the unique shape of their flowers. They are easy to take care of, they bloom regularly, and they draw the eye. Ideal for brightening a partly shady border with moist, well-drained soil. While young it makes an attractive container or house plant.
- Alstroemeria open throughout the summer and early autumn at the top of leafy stems. Plants die back over winter and re-sprout in spring. Alstroemerias have long been a staple of cottage gardens. Excellent in summer borders, especially with roses, they can also be used in containers.
What with herbs, fruit, vegetables and early summer bedding now on sale we have more than enough to keep you busy in the garden this weekend.
